About Dr Siobhan Henley's approach

Professional Background

I am a Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist with extensive experience in trauma-focused clinical practice.

Alongside my medical training, I have specialised in psychological trauma and EMDR, working with individuals across the lifespan in both NHS and specialist services.

My clinical background includes senior roles within trauma services, including being the Psychiatrist in an NHS Veterans Service supporting individuals with chronic PTSD, combat-related trauma and moral injury.

This dual foundation — psychiatry and psychotherapy — informs my supervision practice.

EMDR Accreditation & Trauma Training

I am an Accredited Consultant with EMDR Europe and provide supervision in accordance with EMDR Europe standards.

In addition to EMDR, my trauma-focused training includes:

  • Narrative Exposure Therapy

  • Group Traumatic Episode Protocol (G-TEP)

  • Sandtray approaches

  • Level 2 Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level 2 (adapted child and adolescent specific IFS)

This breadth of training supports integrative, formulation-led supervision while maintaining EMDR model integrity.

Clinical Experience in Complex Trauma

My work has involved supporting individuals presenting with:

  • Complex PTSD

  • Developmental trauma

  • Dissociation

  • Attachment disruption

  • Neurodevelopmental complexity

  • High-risk and safeguarding concerns

Experience within NHS systems has also provided depth in:

  • Multi-agency collaboration

  • Risk assessment and formulation

  • Systemic and organisational dynamics

  • Working with chronic and severe presentations

This informs a supervision approach grounded in clinical realism and complexity.

Supervision Philosophy

I view supervision as a collaborative, reflective and intellectually engaged process.

My approach is:

  • Developmentally informed

  • Formulation-driven

  • Trauma-sensitive

  • Ethically grounded

  • Clinically rigorous

Supervision offers space to think carefully, refine technique, explore uncertainty and strengthen professional identity. The aim is not simply problem-solving, but deepening clinical understanding and confidence in managing complexity.

Working Across the Lifespan

With training in both child and adult trauma, I provide supervision for therapists working with:

  • Children and adolescents

  • Adults with complex trauma

  • Veterans and moral injury presentations

  • Families and systemic contexts

This lifespan perspective ensures developmental nuance is incorporated into EMDR case formulation.
